Virginia
Most of these are re-posts from facebook, but I want to share them here, too. In the late summer, Marshall had some business in Central Virginia, so K and I spent two consecutive weekends exploring Nelson and Albemarle counties with Daddy while he had breaks. You see our little apple orange blossom picking apples fresh off the tree (which she immediately ate), the historic inn where we stayed one weekend, scenes of the Shenandoah Mountains, and the grounds of UVA where Vaden, our friend and Charlottesville native, showed us around. The inn was nestled among cattle farms, apple orchards and vineyards. They grew their own herbs and other produce and had fresh eggs from the hens, and all of this went into a very nice breakfast served at one big great table in a rustic kitchen. They also had, preserved in a glass-framed wall-hanging, a lock of Abraham Lincoln's hair and a piece of the American flag in which his body was draped after his assassination and during transport to Illinois. We got a discount there because of Marshall's SAR (DAR) connection. We had fun. Quite an interesting part of the world!
