Virginia continued (Pharsalia)

For the first weekend of our visit to Central Virginia, we stayed at the guesthouse where Daddy and some of his colleague were staying. The guesthouse happens to be part of a complex of buildings, orchards, and vineyards- all which is part of Pharsalia plantation, the ancestral home of a Virginia family dating back to the 18th century. The young woman who ran the guesthouse is a descendant of the Virginia planter and progenitor of this family, and she personally showed us around the place. These pictures include a view of the mountain from the Pharsalia main house, a room inside the main house, the large hearth in one of the outbuildings (a kitchen?) and some old, old bottles of various things like stryknine. There were also smokehouses, rustic potties, and slave houses. This place is largely unknown yet is the only preserved plantation that still has all of it's outbuildings. This tour was totally unexpected and very personal coming from our hostess. We'll remember this always.
